Yellow jackets invading hives
I watched today in horror as dozens of yellow jackets went in and out of 3 separate hives, seemingly unimpeded. I have entrance reducers on the hives and they were completely fine and looking ready for winter just a week ago.
I reduced the entrance down to about a half inch on each hive after seeing this. I also ordered yellow jacket traps hoping I can weaken the wasps.
It was in the 40s today and rainy, so maybe that had my guard bees feeling sluggish. Hoping they were guarding better in the warmer inside of the hive?
