Requeening an aggressive hive
I have quite a hot hive, so I decided to requeen it. When I looked in the hive to find the old queen, I saw zero eggs, no queen, some capped brood and emerging bees, and a few bees with deformed wings. I think the hive has a high mite load, but I don’t know how the queen could have died. I put a queen cage in the hive and will check on it in a few days. I have not inspected this hive in over a month before now, so I couldn’t have killed it then. Any tips or ideas on how the queen died?
