Question About Hive Box Coloring
Hi all,
I recently ordered a hive box and after growing various articles and tips, I noticed that the majority of beekeepers have their boxes in the original wood look (with staining/waxing) or painted white (and various other lighter colors).
Is there any significance to a box being a certain color, or is it merely personal choice/preference? I thought maybe certain colors are used to prevent overheating, better at attracting bees, etc, but this is just a guess.
If I want to keep my box looking like the original wood, can I use any wood stain appropriate for outdoors or is there a certain type that is non-hazardous and should be used for this purpose.
Any advice is greatly appreciated and I look forward to becoming a part of this great and active group!
