Queenless hive going into winter?
It’s been nearly 4 weeks since my hive swarmed and I haven’t seen a new queen or eggs. I’m puzzled because the hive isn’t acting queenless- they are very active during the day, they’re calm and docile during inspection and there’s no sign of a laying worker. They are filling all the cells with honey. I only have one hive so I can’t give them a frame of brood to see if they do supercedure cells. I’d like to believe there’s a queen in there and I just haven’t seen her and she’s just not gonna lay this late in the season, but that doesn’t seem likely. Any advice on how to get this hive through the winter? Northern New England, so maybe another month before they stop flying.
