Of bears and bees
I'm planning on getting some hives this spring. My biggest concern is the bears that make my property home. I live on 100 acres of mostly arboreal forest in Northern Ontario. While I haven't seen one, yet, I have smelled the and found scat scarily close to my house.
I know bears don't care about bee stings because they will literally eat a whole wild bee nest, or even a wasps nest if hungry enough. I'm sure the hives will be a big attractant. I do have a livestock guardian dog, actually 3, but they can only scare a bear they can't fight it so I try to keep them at bay as much as possible so the dogs don't get hurt.
How can I bear proof my hives?
