Noticed a strange behavior today while checking my hostas, figured I’d ask here.
I'm not a beekeeper, but I do my best to help out the local populations and always enjoy watching the bees in my garden. I was looking at the flowers on my hostas and saw a fairly large bee, mostly black with a bright yellow spot between it's eyes. Unlike every other bee that crawls into the flower a bit then moves on to the next flower, this large bee was crawling to the base of each flower, making a small bite, then flew to the next one. I followed it around to about 10 flowers and it never went inside, it just made the small bites which I've never seen before. Has anyone seen this behavior before or know what it's doing?
