Newb trying to get started with a regional question.
I live in coastal Mississippi and we have very mild winters. The low today was in the 60s (F).
I am wanting to start my first colony. Back in September I built a Langstroth from a kit and found a nice spot on my property with morning sun and shade the rest of the day. I have not tried to start the colony waiting on spring, which I have now realized is mostly based on fears generated by bee keepers on Michigan talking about their winter hardships.
Am I wrong in this assessment? Is winter a real problem where I live?
