Need advice on using shims in hives
I just need some advice, or some opinions here. I have a 10 frame hive, and have been reading about fall feeding using pollen patties or white sugar cakes. Some places suggest laying the pollen patty directly on top of the frames, and other places suggest using a 1 1/2" shim to create a gap between the box/frame and the inner cover, and again put the patty/sugar on top of the frames. I'm worried that if I use the shim that the bees would fill that with comb. Any opinions or advice on whether to use these shims or not? Thx.
