Leary of hive inspection

We are grateful you are here

Leary of hive inspection

Ok guys I know I'm being ridiculous, but I'm struggling. I see all of you doing inspections and know I need too. I have a full bee suit, gloves, veil and smoker. A fellow co-worker caught a wild hive and gave it to me about 3 months ago. I have done exactly one inspection with this hive. The last group of bees we had (first) were so mellow I never had to smoke or suit up. This hive, not the case. We don't have Africanized bees here in Missouri yet, but this hive is so aggressive when I checked the hive, fully suited, I got stung 3 times. Then, earlier this week our dogs got stung. Any tips on time of day, weather outside during check, etc? I know I just need to "suck it up" but…

Edit: I checked the hive a month ago. My dogs were simply near the hive (about 5 feet), not playing, not bothering it, just standing and got attacked by about 4 bees. Sorry I should've made had more clear :/
