Is it too late to add a honey super?
First time beekeeper this year and I’m confused about the timing. I’m in Washington state and just read that June is a good time for a honey super.
I did the hive inspection yesterday (two brood boxes) and it looks like they just got to about 80% full and I have a third box coming next week. The bees were also building comb on top of the frames even though some were empty.
Is it too late to put the honey super on next week? I ask because I had also read that you don’t want to give them too much room so they can regulate the temperature better when it gets cold.
Maybe I’m confusing several issues, but I want them to have the best chance of overwintering and appreciate any help!
