Is it possible to have a beehive in a small-town backyard, surrounded by neighbors on 3 sides?
Location is Washington state. We have a beekeeper law that states that as long as you're certified as a beekeeper thru the state, you're not civilly liable for bee stings. To get certified, it sounds like it's just a $100, two-weekend long class.
That said, I have always been fascinated by beekeeping and would love to have a hive of my own. I own my home, which is on a 0.30 acre lot. The house itself is about 2,150 sq ft. My back yard is fully fenced. I'm surrounded on the fence line on 3 sides (4th is to my front yard / street).
I've looked around online and I get very back-and-forth answers. I can't figure out if its feasible for me to plan for a beehive in my backyard. I've got a great spot for one I think. It's backed up against the fence line, indirect son, tree cover, and there's close to a 20' clearance from where the hive will be to my house.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
