Is it possible to bring bees indoors for the winter?
I know this may seem like a strange question but since a lot of colony deaths happen in winter due to freezing temperatures and/or starvation, would it be feasible to put the bees in a terrarium or something and bring them inside?
If I could find a large enough terrarium to fit a few frames inside, then I could put a mesh screen on top and keep them in a small unused room with a fan blowing over the top for air circulation. In theory, the bees wouldn't freeze to death and they'd be less likely to starve because they're not expending energy to keep warm. It'd also be easier to check on them. In spring I could put the frames back in the hive right as it becomes warm enough to fly again. Is this a good plan or no?
