Hive Box Splitting
I have a hive that the wood of the box has started splitting over the winter. I have two hives in my yard and the second hive does not have this issue. I can't seem to get search engines to understand that I'm not interested in splitting a colony.
My theory is that the moisture and the heat of the bees inside the hive box caused the wood to swell and split during the freeze-thaw cycles of the winter. Is there a way to prevent this in the future? For example, coating the inside of a hive box with beeswax?
