Did a walk away split a week ago and am a bit confused on what i am seeing. South texas.

Split a week ago by simply taking the top brood box ,which had queen in it, and placing it on its own bottom board. Fed 1:1 sugar water to both hives. Today i went to go fill sugar water for both and i noticed no activity in the hive entrance with the queen. Opened it up and i only have 1 frame of bees and i did see the queen. No eggs or larva and plenty of space. I opened the queenless hive to take a look and as soon as i went to pull a frame i heard a roar and had 100s of bees pouring from between the frames toward my veil. I fed and closed them back up hoping they will calm down when the finish requeening. I biggest concern is the hive with the queen. I saw plenty of honey but no pollen. Hoping she isnt laying due to lack of foragers and no pollen. I bought a pollen patty and will put it on tomorrow. Any thoughts or critiques? Im new and trying to understand.
