CATCH THE BUZZ – American Bee Research Conference, Student Winners

Our yearly meeting (American Bee Research Conference) was held last week Jan 7-8, 2021. It was a wonderful 2 days of 40+ presentations, including 2 plenaries from internationally renowned bee scientists. We would like to Announce the Winners of the Student Competitions.

Winners of the PhD student presentations:

Harper McMinn-Sauder; (The Ohio State University), Using colony weight monitoring to identify flowers important for honey production in the Ohio agroecosystem

Bradley D. Ohlinger; (Virginia Tech), Dancing bees communicate monthly fluctuations in forage availability  in a mixed-use landscape in Virginia

Winners of the Undergraduate/Master’s student presentations:

Emily Walker; (The Ohio State University), Acute Toxic Effects of Insecticide-Fungicide-Adjuvant Combinations on Honey bees

Mary Silliman; (Virginia Tech), Row crops provide mid-summer forage for honey bees

 Winners of the lightening talk presentations:

Connor A. Auth; (Washington State University), Plausibility of novel honey bee semen cryopreservation methods

Courtney Brummel; (University of Nebraska-Lincoln), Developing Integrated Pollination Conservation and Research Efforts at Kimmel Orchard

Each student winner for the regular talks will receive $200. Each student winner for the Lightening Talks will receive $50. We thank everyone for their participation and especially the students for their outstanding presentations.
